Campaign Details
On February 9, 2013, warm-hearted walkers will brave the cold TOGETHER, UNITED at United Way’s 3rd Annual Walk for Warmth in their efforts to raise awareness and critical funds to help struggling Anchorage families stay housed and warm in these cold months.
We'll be gathering at First United Methodist Church, 725 W. 9th Ave:
9:30 - 10:30: Check-in and activities
10:30 -10:45: Rally
10:45 - 11:15: 30-minute advocacy walk
11:15 - noon: soup, cookies and door prizes
Rent and utility assistance are consistently the most under-served needs in our community -- there just aren't enough funds to keep up with people in need. And the consequences of failing to make utility payments can be severe:
- Even after an outstanding utility bill has been paid, many utility companies require a steep fee to reconnect service.
- Most landlords will issue an eviction notice for utility shutoff, even if rent has been paid.
- Once evicted, it becomes increasingly difficult and expensive to help a family back into permanent housing.
At United Way, we believe the best way to address family homelessness is to prevent it. You can help!
JOIN THE WALK: February 9, 2013, we'll be gathering at First United Methodist Church (725 W. 9th Ave) for a rally and half-hour advocacy walk around the Delaney Park Strip. It's free to walk -- join us to show your support for our neighbors in need!
FUNDRAISE: Click the blue button at the top of this page to become a fundraiser. Set a goal and invite your friends to help make sure all Anchorage families are housed and warm.
MAKE A TEAM: Amplify your fundraising impact (and your advocacy impact at the Walk!) by recruiting your friends to help the cause. Once you've created your individual fundraising page, you'll have the option to create or join a team.
If you have any questions, please email Meghan at mclemens@ak.org. Thank you for your time and we hope to see you February 9! Don't forget to dress warm!
